GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- A Durham man accused of shooting and wounding a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been sentenced to more jail time.

A federal judge on Friday sentenced Mikel Edward Brady II to 40 years in prison for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Brady pleaded guilty to the federal weapons charge last year. Authorities said he shot Trooper Michael Potts in the face, hands and shoulder during a traffic stop on U.S. 70 in February 2013.

Police said Brady fired four shots. He has already been sentenced to 24 years for attempted murder.
