MATTHEWS, N.C. -- An employee of the Matthews Police Department who was responsible for the security of seized and found property has been fired following an investigation and embezzlement charges filed against her.
Matthews Police say 35-year-old Melissa Guillet has been charged with three counts of embezzlement of funds by a public officer/trustee.
Chief Rob Hunter says there is no evidence that any pending criminal cases have been jeopardized by Guillet's actions, and that any items she removed from the property control area were from cases that have already been adjudicated.
Guillet was terminated from employment on May 13 when the three warrants for her arrest were obtained.She served the Matthews Police Department as a property control technician since 2009, but has been with the department since 2007.
No further details were provided by the Matthews Police Department on the case.
