CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina highway troopers have arrested a woman accused of abducting her two children from their grandparents' home in Maine.
Senior Trooper Bridgent Wyant says 34-year-old Bethmarie Retamozzo was arrested about 10:15 p.m. Saturday after troopers spotted her van with New York tags at a rest area off Interstate 95 in Colleton County.
Police in Waterville, Maine, say she disappeared with her 6- and 7-year-old children during a supervised visit. She was supposed to take them to a park to meet a supervisor Thursday, but the three didn't show up.
The children were unharmed and turned over to the Department of Social Services. She is charged as a fugitive from justice.
Wyant says the mother will remain in Colleton County jail until FBI agents arrive to take custody.
