THOMASVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Police in Thomasville have charged a couple with misdemeanor child abuse after a 4-year-old girl was found walking alone on a local road.
The Dispatch of Lexington reports that police said three passersby called 911 after seeing the child walking on the side of the road Friday afternoon.
According to police, the mother of the child left the girl with two people so she could run errands. One of the people she asked to watch the girl left the residence and the other fell asleep. The girl left the house and was found walking on the street.
Police have charged 36-year-old Robyn Renee Perras and 41-year-old Donald Ray Perras. Both are being held in the Davidson County Detention Center, and it's not known if they have attorneys.
