RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- State officials say a dentist practicing in northeastern North Carolina has pleaded guilty to charges related to falsely billing Medicaid for dental and oral surgery services.

A statement from the N.C. Attorney General's office Tuesday said Dr. Francis Bald, who has practices in Elizabeth City and Nags Head, also has been ordered to pay $114,000 in restitution.

Bald was one of nine North Carolina health care providers arrested last December as part of a sweep by the attorney general's Medicaid Investigations Division. Six of the other providers arrested pleaded guilty earlier this year.

Bald pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted medical assistance provider fraud and was sentenced on Sept. 5 to 60 months of supervised probation and ordered to repay the Medicaid program.
