NC driver faces murder charge in pedestrian death

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) -- A High Point man has been charged with second-degree murder in a wreck that killed a pedestrian. 

Police say 31-year-old Senstavanh James Uprajay was driving a minivan around 2 p.m. Tuesday when he hit a mailbox and a drainage ditch. 

Police say he then hit 49-year-old John Floyd of High Point, who was walking along the road. 

Uprajay was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries in the crash. 

Police said Uprajay was under the influence of prescription drugs and other narcotics when the crash occurred. 

He also is charged with aggravated felony death by motor vehicle, aggravated serious injury by motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, driving left of center and driving while his license was revoked.  

It was not clear if he has an attorney.
