STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A Statesville man is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center without bond, accused of assaulting his girlfriend.
Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Birchwood Drive for a report of an assault in progress.
Officials say the female victim reported she'd been assaulted by her boyfriend, as well as her friend who tried to intervene.
The girlfriend had obvious injuries from the assault, deputies say.
The victim's boyfriend, 29-year-old Christopher Brian Compton, was located, arrested and charged with assault on a female.
The Special Victims Unit began further investigation, interviewing both victims and a witness, and obtained the victim's medical records.
An Ex Parte Domestic Violence Protection Order was issued based upon collected evidence, and investigators filed two additional charges against Compton: assault by strangulation and communicating threats.
Compton was served the two new warrants while he sat in the Iredell County Detention Center, where he remains, officials say, without bond.
