CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Hamilton Circle neighborhood in north Charlotte is on alert after two shootings just a few hours apart.
On Tuesday night bullets hit a home in the 6200 block of Sunbridge Court. Early Wednesday morning a home on Sunstone Drive was hit by bullets. The two homes are located one street apart.
"My 2-year-old goddaughter was here one night and we heard shots. I thought it was firecrackers and we find out it's not," said a woman who did not want to be identified.
Officers in the North Division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have stepped up patrols in the area. Tyrone Capers told NBC Charlotte he’s still worried.
“I have family, I have a home here. My concern is not just for myself, but for the whole neighborhood," said Capers.
The neighborhood association has been working with police. A lot of neighbors are upset by what has been going on, including the woman with the 2-year-old goddaughter.
"Her mother was driving through that road close to the same time that was happening. She could have been hit. It could have been the baby hit, for a bunch of crazy people," said the woman.
Police think two rival groups may be behind the gunfire. While investigators don’t have enough to charge anyone right now, some suspects have been contacted and are on notice that officers are watching.
