ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. -- On Wednesday, authorities raided two meth labs-- one within 1000 feet of a school, resulting in eight arrests.

Early in the morning hours on Wednesday, the Alexander County Sheriff's Office and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation executed two search warrants in the eastern part of the county. The first, at a mobile home in the 1100 block of Paul Payne Store Road, and the second warrant was executed at a home in the 1400 block of White Plains Church Road.

Authorities say both homes were actively manufacturing methamphetamine at the time of the raids.

The home in the 1400 block of White Plains Church Road is close to East Alexander Middle School, prompting a soft lock down of the campus while the raid took place.

The following suspects were each arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, maintain a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substance, manufacture controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia:

  • Jason Mullen, 27, of Taylorsville
  • Rita Skipper, 49, of Taylorsville
  • Courtney Hill, 22, Taylorsville
  • Stephanie Thomas, 36, Hiddenite
  • Jason Cook, 26, Hiddenite
  • Derrick Laws, 32, Taylorsville
  • Julie Anderson, 42, Hiddenite
  • Sammie Minter, 35, Taylorsville

Derrick Laws was also charged with manufacture, sell, or deliver a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school.
