ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Rock Hill police are investigating their first murder of the year.
Thursday night 34-year-old Johnny Ellison was shot in killed on Green Street.
Investigators arrested and charged 29-year-old Jaris Williams and 32-year-old David Williams with murder, the two men are brothers.
"They were acquaintances and friends lived in the same neighborhood close, neighbors knew each other growing up," said Rock Hill Police Captain Mark Bollinger.
Officers say the men got into a dispute following a card game; a fistfight was followed by gunfire.
"Apparently last night the victim was the winner which upset some people, there was some mouthing back and forth for a while," said Bollinger
Last year Rock Hill had seven murders, police think the steps they took to combat the trend paid off with a steep reduction.
"We got some people locked up that we knew were doing our violent crime and I think some of the community members not unlike Charlotte have had enough," said Bollinger.
Police also say they tried to address some of the small neighborhood gangs that were causing problem.
"We kind of got that under control a little bit, we've been blessed," said Bollinger.
