Victim, suspect identified in fatal domestic dispute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a domestic dispute that escalated, leaving one dead and two more recovering from gunshot wounds.

CMPD responded to a home in the 8400 block of Filbert Lane at about 1:40. Three victims, all suffering gunshot wounds, were located when officers arrived on the scene.

All three victims were take to Carolinas Medical Center. One of the victims, 43-year-old Marcia Marie Winningham, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The other two, police say, sustained serious injuries. The surviving victims have not been identified.

David Mark Fields, 44, is charged with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with Friday morning's incident.

After authorities identified Fields as a suspect and a warrant was issued, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) alerted Virginia State Police.

VSP located and arrested Fields near Richmond, Virginia, without incident.

Detectives and crime scene techs are en route to interview Fields. There's no word on when he'll be extradited back to Charlotte.

Detectives say they believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting.
