CHINA GROVE, N.C. -- Authorities in China Grove took a man into custody after he robbed a gas station and pointed a weapon at police early Friday morning.

China Grove police said James Lee Jackson robbed the Rushco on U.S. 29 around 6:15 a.m. and led police on a chase.

After leading police on a chase down U.S. 29, Jackson jumped out of his car and pointed a weapon at police.

Officers fired two shots at Jackson before he fled the scene and broke into a nearby condo located on 2nd Avenue.

A hostage task force team talked Jackson out of the condo and police were able to take him into custody.

Police said no one was injured during the robbery or shooting. U.S 29 was briefly closed during the standoff but reopened around 8:15 a.m.
