CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are trying to solve a robbery that started out as a burglary.

The crime happened on Greenleaf Avenue Monday morning around 8:30.

The suspect let himself into the house through a bedroom window. He may have thought he was alone, but a 16-year-old was in the house.

“Went to the porch to check it out and I heard the noise again in my house and it was a louder noise,” said the teen who did not want to be identified.

The teen says he walked towards his mother’s bedroom and pushed open the door and found a stranger.

"There was a guy sitting in my mom's room going through her stuff completely destroyed the room drawers everything," said the victim

The teen says the suspect pulled out a gun and he tried to talk to him.

"When he first pulled the gun out I said, 'man you don't have to shoot me,' he said, 'I'm not going to shoot you just give me what you got."'

The teen says he realized the best thing to do was play it safe and cooperate.

"I was in shock that it was a gun face to face with me but I knew as long as I did what he wanted there would be no reason for him to hurt me," the teen said.

The teen didn’t get hurt, the robber got away and now police are trying to find him.
