LANCASTER, S.C. -- Lancaster police are investigating a deadly shooting on West Meeting Street Tuesday night.
"It is a quiet neighborhood. Yeah, it's a real good neighborhood," said neighbor Thomas Robinson.
Robinson Lives on West Meeting Street in Lancaster, and was surprised to hear victim Rondell Thompson was shot and killed in the front yard of a home just doors down from him, and that the shooter was still on the loose.
"It is kinda concerning, but you just have to let authorities do what they have to do you know," said Robinson.
Police say they had patrol officers checking a strip mall nearby and heard the shots; by the time they got to the house, Thomas, who is in his early 20s, was already dead from gunshot wound in the front yard.
Directly across the street is Springs Memorial Hospital, which immediately went on lockdown for about an hour while police secured the area.
Police say from their investigation they believe the shooting was not random, that all parties knew each other, but they can't say how.
Though police can't confirm the shooting was drug-related, there has been drug activity and search warrants issued on the home in the past.
Robinson says it’s a shame for a normally quiet area.
"I hate it that it happened, you know. It's my first time hearing about it, but most everybody around here mind(s) their own business," said Robinson.
Now police say they are interviewing witnesses who were at or near the house, some they believe are cooperating while others they believe are holding back important information
