DENVER, N.C. -- An investigation into a vehicle truck from a Denver business led police to multiple other stolen vehicles in the area.
Owners of Auto Sports by the Lake reported the theft on Dec. 20.
Surveillance video showed a suspicious driver in a BMW riding through the lot and checking out vehicles, according to the detectives. At one point the driver then gets out of his vehicle and allegedly opened a door to a Ford F-250, took the keys and closed the door.
A private investigator working for a separate auto dealership in Hickory then tipped off police to the suspect’s location. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Hickory Police Department were able to identify the man as the suspect seen on surveillance video.
Upon arriving to his home on Lake Hickory, investigators found truck stolen from Denver, along with four others. The total value equaled more than $200,000.
Frederick Charles Washburn, 50, has been charged with possession of stolen goods and larceny. He was booked into jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
Addition charges are expected.
