CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police say they caught two men in the act as they broke into vehicle at a Cornelius apartment complex.

They responded to the One Norman Apartment around 2:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of two suspicious people around cars.

Officers say they found 21-year-old Samuel Chapman and 24-year-old Mark Wells in the complex’s parking lot. Police detained the suspects as they investigated.

They say they found a white Ford truck registered to Wells with several items in the bed and inside of the vehicle.

After speaking to victims, investigators determined the items belonged to the residents.

Each suspect was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail and released on a $14,000 bond. They’re charged with breaking and entering and larceny.
