HICKORY, N.C. -- Three suspected jewel thieves are behind bars.

The robbery happened Tuesday morning in the 200 block of Union Square in Hickory.

Police say 22-year-old Justin Matthew Williams, 21-year-old Xavier Alexander Onwuka and 22-year-old Rashid Sita smashed the business’s window. The allegedly stole jewelry from display cases, and then fled the scene.

According to the Hickory Police Department, the suspects all called Yellow Cab for rides. Drivers thought the men seemed suspicious and called police. Officers then took them into custody.

The suspects face various charges including breaking and entering.

Detectives are working to determine if this incident is connected to other break-ins in the area, including Brownlee Jewelers, which was hit last week.
