CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- Police say a woman in Gaston County shot two of her children on Sunday afternoon.
Just before 1 p.m., police were called to a home in the 1500 block of St. Marks Church Road near Cherryville in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located two victims, a 29-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
The victims' mother, 51-year-old Tina Starney Payne, was also suffering non-life threatening injuries-- self-inflicted cuts, officials say.
Through the course of their investigation, authorities determined Payne was the shooter.
Payne and both of her children were transported to Caromount Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victims were released from the hospital following treatment; Payne was held pending a psychiatric evaluation.
Police say criminal charges are pending, and the case is still under investigation.
