STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Following up on a tip, Statesville Police were able to locate and arrest their suspect in the murder of a 22-year-old man in Statesville on Thursday.
Dantae Laquan Stokes was found by officers at a home in the 100 block of East Raleigh Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound.
Stokes was immediately rushed to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
Statesville Police obtained a murder warrant for 22-year-old Byron Lee Smyre and asked for the public's help in locating him.
Friday morning, officers followed up on a tip that Smyre was at a home off of Turnersburg Highway in Iredell County. With the assistance of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, Smyre was located and arrested without incident.
Smyre is charged with murder and is held in the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond.
