STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A passerby helped stop a break-in at a Statesville business.

The witness flagged down officers around 10 p.m. Wednesday. That person told police that someone was trying to break into Rolling Pin in the Southland Shopping Center on Shelton Avenue.

Officers responded and found a man in the restaurant’s back parking lot. Willie Lerence Gresham, 30, was arrested.

Police say he used a flower planter to smash two windows but nothing had been stolen.

Gresham was found with shards of glass in his shoes and hair, according to police.

Gresham is charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering. He was booked into Iredell County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
