CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is releasing new details on a deadly traffic incident in south Charlotte.

Police say a truck driven by Uriel Flores and a car driven by the victim, 19-year-old Shanquise Bush, never made contact prior to Bush striking a utility pole.

Witnesses tell police the drivers were racing at speeds up to 70 mph before the crash. Bush overcorrected and lost control before colliding with the pole.

Flores did call 911 to report the crash but did not remain on scene to help the victim.

One of the children in Bush’s car also died.
