GASTON COUNTY, NC – Police have charged a woman they say tried to conceal narcotics inside the Gaston County Jail.

The discovery was made Friday by Officer Rowland, according to a report.  The report lists 1.5 grams of marijuana, two clonazepam pills, and a plastic bag were found “concealed in her vaginal area inside the Gaston County Jail”.

Shirlerece Stareka Redfern, 32, is now facing multiple charges including felony possession, misdemeanor possession in a prison/jail, and simple assault.

It was not immediately clear if Redfern was being booked into the jail when the discovery was made, or if the discovery was made after she was placed into custody.

The Gaston County Jail tells NBC Charlotte, generally drugs are discovered when a suspect is being booked.

Redfern was placed under a $5,000 bond.
