CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have released the name of the man stabbed to death in south Charlotte Saturday morning – whose girlfriend then called 911 to confess.
Lonnie Denar McConico, 43, died at the Andover Woods Apartments off Sharon Lakes Road.
A statement from CMPD said the woman, who has not been identified, called officers just after 10 a.m. and told them she had stabbed her boyfriend.
When officers arrived, they found McConico and called MEDIC. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The woman was taken to CMPD headquarters for questioning, but has not been charged. Police said the case file will be reviewed with the District Attorney’s office to see if it merits charges at a later date.
Neighbors who spoke to NewsChannel 36 on the condition that they not give they not give their names, said McConico and his girlfriend had a strained relationship and they often heard the couple fighting.
Saturday morning, one of the woman’s neighbors heard her calling for help. “I heard somebody screaming 'call police' so I came outside and didn't see anything ,” said a man who didn’t want to be identified.
“I went to the end of the breezeway then I heard the young lady's voice again, and then that's when I heard police sirens coming,” he continued.
