DALLAS, N.C. -- A Gaston County woman has been charged with rape after officials say she set up one of her friends to be sexually assaulted while caring for the victim's two children last June. The alleged rapist, however, is still on the loose.
Jeannette Valero Vazquez, 47, was arrested Wednesday on first-degree kidnapping and first-degree rape charges. Police say Vazquez set up the rape with the second woman and 33-year-old Carlos Sanchez Romero on June 20 at Vazquez's house.
The victim--who had known Vazquez for about five years--was allegedly tricked to go into a basement room to look at pictures where Romero was waiting. Officials say Romero then locked the a door and raped the woman.
While the rape was happening, Vazquez allegedly took the victim's two kids, ages four and one-and-a-half, out of the home.
Detectives are still trying to find Romero, who may be a relative of Vazquez. He is believed to be in the area. Police say Romero is likely driving a black and silver Ford F150 with Florida plates AINE93.
Vazquez is at the Gaston County Jail on a $1 million bond.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Romero, you are asked to call 911 immediately.
