ROCK HILL, S.C. -- A teenage girl is one of two suspects arrested in a shoplifting investigation in Rock Hill.
Police responded to the Walmart in the 4800 block of Old York Road on Saturday.
Witnesses told police they saw a female and a male suspect flee from the store in a black Oldsmobile.
Officers pulled over the vehicle soon after on Heckle Boulevard. Police say the driver stopped on the shoulder briefly but then took off at a high rate of speed.
Officers chased the car for a short time, but they say the suspect’s reckless driving in the midst of heavy traffic caused them to call off the pursuit.
A man then flagged down police at Wilson and Main streets after he said a black Oldsmobile drove through a red light, crashed into his van, and then fleed the scene. Police caught up with the vehicle for a second time, but the suspect allegedly tried to run on foot.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Zekiya Knox, has been taken into custody. She has been charged with shoplifting, failure to stop for a siren and leaving the scene of an accident.
