YORK, S.C. -- Five people have been arrested following a meth lab bust in York County.
Law enforcement responded to a house on Hudson Street Wednesday. Witnesses say the odor could be smelled coming from the house.

"It's scary. They could have blown up something with my 8-month-old baby in here," said York neighbor, Eva Morris.

Morris and her baby Mia live just two houses away from what authorities are calling an active meth lab.

"So the guys went out this morning and knocked on the door. They could smell an odor that was consistent with meth labs, so they had the people step outside. They could see items inside consistent with meth labs," said Commander Marvin Brown with York County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Agency.

Crews in HazMat gear went inside to investigate and clean up the mess.

Brown says there was active cooking, and signs of previous inactive meth labs, so they had to take caution with HazMat crews going through the evidence.

"Drain cleaners, Coleman fuel, evidence of Sudafed, those types of items-- quite a bit; a couple duffle bags full of items," said Brown.

Morris says she never saw anything suspicious but did smell something.

"We did smell a funny smell out here coming home at night from work, and stuff like that. It's really at night time you smell it, but it really stinks; I thought maybe the sewer was broke," said Morris.

Now she's just glad it's cleaned up.

"To think about drugs and my baby that close it kind of creeps me out," said Morris.

Five people were arrested after they were decontaminated.  They face a total of 20 different charges, including trafficking meth. The clean-up crew said the mess was the size of three labs.

The suspects have not yet been named.
