GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Greenville police say there have been a number of break-ins in church parking lots over the past month.
The Daily Reflector of Greenville reports (http://bit.ly/SgTjFH) that police have sent warnings to more than 20 churches that thieves are breaking out windows to steal purses and other items.
Police say the thieves have targeted cars at half a dozen churches in the Greenville area since Oct. 24.
Sgt. Joe Friday says church staff members should alert congregation members to pay attention to strangers in parking lots and report any suspicious activity to police.
Friday also suggests that church members not leave purses and other valuable items in their cars.
Friday says police and the Pitt County Sheriff's Office are working to catch the burglars.
