CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An elderly Charlotte couple reported to police a family member assaulted them and stole one of their cars early Tuesday morning.

The incident took place at a home in the 5800 block of McBride Street in northeast Charlotte around 2 a.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report.

An 82-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife told police a relative broke a window and damaged the ignition to a car early Tuesday morning at the house.

“The suspect then ripped the keys to a second vehicle from the victim’s hand,” got into that car and drove off after pushing both elderly victims to the ground in an altercation.

“The two victims were visibly shaken as the result of the incident,” the report states.

The elderly woman suffered minor injuries, and the name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
