ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – A Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy has lost his job and is behind bars accused of stalking.
According to officials, the China Grove Police Department issued a warrant for Brian Michael Long, 33, for misdemeanor stalking.
Reportedly, Long placed a tracking device on his former girlfriend's car.
Investigators tell NBC Charlotte, Long worked in the Rowan County Detention Center.
Last week, he was suspended with pay pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
He was arrested Saturday shortly before midnight by Kannapolis Police during a traffic stop.
He’s now being held in the Cabarrus County Detention Center without bond. He’s expected to appear in court on Monday.
In a press release sent to NBC Charlotte, the sheriff’s department said “The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office mailed a letter to Brian Long’s last known address, on Friday, informing him that his services were no longer needed as an employee, and requesting that all issued equipment be returned to the Sheriff’s Office.”
