FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A State Bureau of Investigation agent says hairs consistent with that of a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl and the man accused in her death were found on a comforter in a trash can near where the child was staying with her mother.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that expert hair examiner Jennifer Remy also testified Monday that further testing on the hairs was inconclusive.
Remy said one hair taken from a comforter found near the home in a mobile home park was microscopically comparable to Mario McNeill's head hair. But the comparison meant there were some similarities and some differences.
McNeill is charged with the girl's kidnapping, rape and murder. He could face the death sentence if convicted.
Shaniya's mother is accused of selling her daughter to pay a drug debt.
