HUDSON, N.C. --  A Hudson man is behind bars after a three-month investigation into illegal distribution of prescription pills.

SWAT team members with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office helped arrest 44-year-old Benny Dale Laney of Hudson on Thursday.  Laney is accused of selling illegal prescription pills out of his house.

“The case originated with numerous complaints of suspicious drug activity involving Laney,” said Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones in a statement.  “Ice Unit agents managed to infiltrate and utilize a confidential informant who made several buys of illegal prescription pills from Laney while at his residence.”

Officers seized 58 oxycodone pills worth $1,545, drug paraphernalia and a 2000 Lexus during the operation.

“Ice Unit agents also found evidence and believe that Laney was traveling out of state along with others to obtain prescriptions for high powered narcotic pills.  Agents believe Laney was using his 2000 Lexus and rental cars to facilitate these illegal runs,” Sheriff Jones added.

Laney is charged with felony possession with intent to sell/distribute oxycodone and felony maintaining a dwelling to keep/store a controlled substance.  He is due in court on January 7.
