SHELBY, N.C. -- A woman was shot and killed early Saturday in Shelby, police said, and a felon was arrested on gun charges as part of the investigation.
Police found the woman at around 1 a.m. Saturday, when they were called to apartments on Ramblewood Drive in response to a shooting. The woman was lying in the parking lot, shot.
She was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Police did not identify her Saturday.
Shelby Police officials said that during the investigation, they arrested Steven Tyrell Morris, 20. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting arrest.
North Carolina state prison records show Morris is on parole after being released from prison last year. He was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2009, and sentenced to at least 3 1/2 years in prison.
He was released in October. Morris is being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center.
Morris hasn’t been charged with the killing Saturday. Shelby Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further charges are pending.
