CONCORD, N.C. -- FBI Charlotte says a wanted sex offender has turned himself in after cutting off his electronic monitoring device and going into hiding following a search of his home in which deputies found child pornography images.

Cabarrus County Sheriff's Deputies say 43-year-old James Brian Webb disappeared on Monday after officers conducted a search of his residence.

During the search of Webb's home, deputies reported finding Webb to be in possession of child pornography.

Webb, a convicted sex offender, was under GPS tracking as a result of his latest conviction, but removed the device while in the town of Vale in Lincoln County at 7:15 Monday night.

Webb was convicted of felony sex offenses in Ashe and Johnston Counties in 2003, and at that time became a registered sex offender. This past January, Webb was convicted of being a sex offender on school grounds, and was then placed on supervised probation.

FBI Charlotte says Webb surrendered to law enforcement just after 11 on Thursday night.
