Stolen firearm leads detectives to home break-in suspect

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. -- A recovered stolen firearm at the scene of a breaking and entering led detectives to arrest a man in connection in with multiple home break-ins.

The Stanly County Sheriff's Office began investigating a break-in on Mountain Creek Road back in mid-June. In the break-in, authorities say multiple firearms and jewelry were stolen.

A stolen firearm was recovered from a second breaking and entering on Moonshine Drive reported a week later.

Evidence led detectives to identifying Joseph Brandon Cranford as the suspect.

Cranford is charged with multiple counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretenses and damage to property.

Cranford was arrested on Monday and booked in to the Stanly County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

He's set to make his first court appearance next Monday.
