CLOVER, S.C. -- A man and woman were arrested Thursday afternoon after leading authorities on a chase through two counties, according to the York County Sheriff's Office.
Gaston and York authorities tried to pull over a blue 1972 GMC truck, but police said the driver, Gideon Johnson, took off and led police on a chase through both counties.
Authorities tried to stop the truck on Patrick Road in Gaston County. Johnson then ditched the truck in a field and ran into the woods just across the South Carolina state line off of Bellaire Circle, officials said.
The female passenger in the truck was taken into custody by the York County Sheriff's Office while a K-9 unit searched for Johnson, who was later tracked to his father's nearby home.
Johnson came out from the home without incident and was arrested.
Johnson's father "was indecisive on whether or not he gave permission to his son to use the vehicle," the report states.
Officers said they found more than six grams of marijuana in nine bags in the truck that belongs to Johnson.
