WESLEY CHAPEL, N.C.  -- The North Carolina Department of Highway Patrol released the identity of the driver responsible for hitting and killing a man as he walked along Potter Road in Union County last month.

The highway patrol incident report indicates a 17-year-old female is responsible for hitting and killing Josh Crowley as he walked along Potter Road in Union County on April 7.  NewsChannel 36 is not releasing the name of the teen because she is a juvenile.

The teen was driving a silver Lexus RX-350 SUV  heading south on Potter Road just before 10 that Saturday night when Crowley was struck, according to the report.  The report also stated Crowley's blood alcohol level was 0.13 at the time of the accident.

A couple in the car behind the SUV saw it swerve, then later stop and check for damage, before driving off.

The couple told troopers they thought the SUV had hit a deer but realized something more had happened when they passed by the site the next day near Beulah Church Road and saw police.

Crowley was found around 7 a.m. the next day and the damaged Lexus SUV was recovered the next week after the accident.

Police said the owner of the Lexus stepped forward and called police after hearing about the incident, but the owner told police he was not driving the vehicle during the accident.

The teen has not been charged in Crowley's death.
