CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are crediting an alert citizen and rapid response by officers with the arrest of a teen who's believed to be responsible for an attempted robbery and an armed robbery of victims driving through an ATM.
On Thursday, police say an alert citizen was going through the ATM at the Wells Fargo branch in the 9000 block of Albemarle Road when they noticed someone crouching in the bushes nearby.
The citizen hurried their transaction, pulled to the side of the building and called 911.
CMPD officers arrived on scene quickly, and were able to locate the suspect coming out of the bushes.
The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was also found concealing a weapon, police say.
Detectives interviewed the teen and determined he intended to rob the citizen at the ATM.
Additionally, detectives determined the teen is the suspect in a similar robbery a few weeks ago, in which a victim was robbed of her checkbook while she visited the same ATM.
The suspect, whose identity will not be released, is charged with common law robbery and attempted common law robbery.
