CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A teen arrested in connection with the weekend shooting of an off-duty CMPD officer, is also connected to a rash of robberies at area convenience stores.
NBC Charlotte reported the string of robberies last week. Law enforcement said the robbers were literally hitting a convenience store every 45 minutes in a red pick-up truck.
One of the suspect involved Kevin Watson McClary,19, allegedly struck again Sunday morning.
This time, investigators say the teenager didn’t pick on a store. McClary went to the apartment of a police officer and allegedly committed a home invasion shooting officer Jonathan Dunham in the shoulder.
VCAT officers arrested McClary on Sunday. He’s facing multiple armed robbery charges. Dunham is expected to make a full recovery.
He was at home with his 11-year-old son and was caught off guard by the incident.
Sources say McClary knew he was targeting the home of an officer – and his motive may not have been money but street credit.
Mauricio Gabriel Salazar-Peiti has also been arrested in connection with the home invasion. Police are looking for two additional suspects in connection with the string of convenience store robberies.
Miguel Angel Zelaya and Nahum Maldonado Rea both have warrants for their arrests.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
