MONROE, N.C. -- Monroe Police arrested a teen following a break-in at a tobacco store that led to a police pursuit.
Monroe Police officers responded to the Monroe Tobacco Store right at 6 a.m. in reference to a glass break alarm.
When officers arrived on the scene, a gray vehicle fled the parking lot. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car continued to drive through the WalMart parking lot, then entered US 74 westbound.
Officers chased the car until the Union County line, where the Union County Sheriff's Office picked-up pursuit of the vehicle.
Stop sticks were deployed by the Sheriff's Office near US 74 and I-485, bringing the car to a stop, but not the chase.
The suspects jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot, leading officers on brief foot chase.
Joshua Samuel Welch, 19, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit breaking and entering of a building, breaking or entering a motor vehicle and felony larceny.
The name and charges of the second suspect were not available.
It's not yet clear whether Welch was the driver or passenger of the vehicle.
