YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- For the sixth time in less than three weeks, thieves made off with not only money, but an actual ATM from a local store.

Police responded to the Lake Wylie Mini Mart in the 1100 block of Highway 274 Clover in the early hours of Jan. 9.

They arrived to find damage to the front of the building. The York County Sheriff’s Office said it appeared the thieves used a stolen red work van to drive into the shop and steal an ATM that had bolted to the floor.

The $2,000 machine had about $6,000 inside of it. Investigators estimated the property damage to total $3,000. Police later found the van and ATM, without any money, on Bud Wilson Road in Gastonia.

Since December 23, there have been six similar-style ATM thefts, in Gaston (N.C.), Cleveland (N.C.) and now York County, S.C.
