SALISBURY, N.C. -- Authorities say a threat by a student posted to Twitter has security heightened at a local high school.

Although the specific nature of the comment has not been made public, officials say the East Rowan High School student who posted the message has been identified, and will be dealt with accordingly.

The post, although initially posted to Twitter, got quite a response on Facebook, leading to the notification of the authorities.

Now, in an effort to ensure student safety, Rowan County Deputies will have a presence on the campus, and officials say the heightened security will be in place through Friday. Officials say four to five deputies will be present on the campus.

The East Rowan High School principal did communicate the situation and the additional security to parents.

The student has not been identified.
