BURKE COUNTY, N.C. – The woman police say is responsible for killing two people in a hit-and-run accident last week has been charged with second degree murder.
Amie Jo Skeens is in custody after hitting Stephen Moody and Kevin Moody's motorcycle on October 26 near Long View, just inside the Burke County line near the Hickory Regional Airport.
Both Moody’s died at the scene.
The wreck happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Airport Rhodhiss Road. According to Highway Patrol, Skeens' vehicle traveling eastbound crossed the center line and struck the Moody's motorcycle.
Skeens was charged with two counts of second degree murder on Wednesday morning is due in court on Monday. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Authorities said a witness called in the accident and then followed Skeens after she left the scene.
They also told NewsChannel 36 that the Skeens tried to park her vehicle in a hidden area to elude officers but the witness led authorities to her.
