CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a woman after she hopped in a police cruiser and drove off.

Officials said Kacie Leandia Nelson, 25, drove nearly five miles before stopping at East Independence Boulevard.

Police said she drove it about 4.5 miles, to 9010 East Independence Boulevard, parked the vehicle and started walking toward Matthews.

Authorities said an officer was at a call for service on Idlebrook Drive and Idlewild Road. The officer left his vehicle running and the woman, who had nothing to do with the call, jumped in and took off.

Nelson is charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license. It was not clear if she has an attorney.

Authorities caught her walking towards Matthews when they arrested her. Police don't know why Nelson got into the car.
