STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Statesville Police are investigating an armed robbery at a dollar store Tuesday night.

Around 9 p.m., police say a black female robbed the Dollar General in the 1500 block of East Broad Street at gunpoint. The woman, who authorities are looking to identify, hid inside the store until closing time, and then confronted a store employee, according to police.

The woman, armed with a handgun, ordered employees to the front of the store and demanded money. Then, the suspect ordered both employees to the office.

Police say both employees complied, and were not injured.

The suspect, who's described as 5-foot-6, 165 pounds, slender build with a light complexion, wearing gray sweatpants, dark blue shirt with a white t-shirt underneath, large sunglasses and a brown and auburn-colored wig, fled the scene on foot.

A K-9 unit and numerous officers conducted a search on the ground, but the suspect was not located.

If you have any information that may help apprehend the suspect in this armed robbery, please call Iredell County Crime Stoppers at (704) 662-1340.
