Argument over parking spot leaves one neighbor dead

According to police, the deadly shooting stemmed from a dispute over cars being parked in front of the shooting suspect's residence.

GASTONIA, N.C. -- Saturday afternoon was anything but normal for one Gastonia neighborhood.

Daniel Huffton still can't believe what happened on Dawnwood Drive.

"It's more like something you hear that would happen in Charlotte," Huffton told NBC Charlotte.

He's lived on Dawnwood Drive for more than 10 years.

Huffton says he doesn't personally know his neighbors down the street, Russell Schneider or Gregory Town, but neighbors described a feud between the two families as a "Hatfield-McCoy" style clash that dates back a long time.

"A guy pulled up in a truck and he was telling us something about someone getting shot down there," Huffton said.

Gaston County police say Gregory Town, 59, shot and killed Russell Schneider in the chest after an argument about cars parked in front of Town's home.

Schneider was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Town is charged with one count of first-degree murder. He's currently being held in Gaston County jail without bond.
