YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating following a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred early Friday morning in York.
According to the York County Sheriff's Office, the officer-involved shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Friday near the 700 block of East Old Limestone Road. Emergency dispatch said that a man called 911 saying his brother was intoxicated and threatening his mother with a knife inside of a home on East Limestone Road.
The man was later identified as 33-year-old Trent Fondren and the deputy who shot him was identified as Gary Pence.
The coroner was called to the scene Friday morning and the York County Sheriff's Office confirmed Fondren had died.
Pence is being placed on administrative leave.
