Police: Woman fakes pregnancy, murders mother and kidnaps her baby

Missing newborn baby rescued in Dallas

DALLAS -- Neighbors in Central Dallas were shocked to learn a missing 8-day-old girl from Kansas was found inside their neighbor's home.

David Darden lives next to the house where SWAT teams rescued Sophia Gonzales early Saturday morning.

"It was like something out of a movie," Darden said.

Gonzales disappaered from her home in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday. Police said her mother, Laura Abarca-Nogueda, 27, was found dead inside the home and the newborn was missing.

A multi-state search started immediately. Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said the FBI and Dallas Police were instrumental in bringing the girl home.

A tip led authorities to the 900 block of Signet, sources told News 8. Police said an ensuing investigation led authorities to believe the child was at that location, a warrant was issued and at 4:30 a.m. Saturday officers stormed the house.

"The child was found safe, but as a precaution was transported to Children’s Medical Center," Jones said.

Neighbors said a young couple lived in the house and they hadn't seen a baby at the residence before.

Yesenia Sesmas, 34, was arrested. Police say she faked a pregnancy and went to Wichita to kidnap the baby.

She has been booked into the Dallas jail on first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping charges.
