CMPD: Recent bank robberies connected

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An attempted bank robbery briefly put a Charlotte elementary school on lockdown Tuesday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to a robbery call in the 200 block of South Sharon Amity Road just after 9 a.m. The caller told police that a suspect robbed the SunTrust Bank and left the scene.

CMPD’s K9 and Aviation Unit assisted patrol officers in searching for the suspect, which forced a precautionary lockdown at Cotswold Elementary.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police say the crime is connected with the robbery of a Wells Fargo on North Tryon a couple weeks ago.

The suspect in both cases is described as a white male with a thin build.

If you have any information on the suspect's identity or whereabouts, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at (703) 334-1600.
