Belmont woman charged with Lowell man's murder

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A Belmont woman has been charged with the murder of a Lowell man after he was found dead in his home Saturday.

Iva Dawn Helms, 32, was charged with one count of first-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with the death of 61-ear-old James William Dellinger. Investigators from the Gaston County Police Department assisted the Lowell Police Department in the investigation.

On Saturday, October 15, police in Lowell responded to Dellinger’s home after Helms called 911, saying she found Dellinger dead from an apparent stabbing. Detectives aided officers with the investigation at the scene and said that Helms was a former roommate of Dellinger’s and had been staying with him for several days.

Helms was arrested at her home without incident. Police say the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
