MCLEANSVILLE - An 11-year old girl is recovering from serious injuries after being hit by a drunk driver while waiting at a bus stop Monday morning in Guilford County.
The accident happened in the 2600 block of Huffine Mill Road. NC State Highway Patrol says Nicholas Alan Williams, 28, is being held at the Guilford County Detention Center. The driver of the car was impaired and carried a .21 blood alcohol content, nearly three times the legal limit. The breathalyzer test was done at 7:47 a.m. according to NCSHP.
The child was unconscious when emergency responders arrived, according the Guilford County Sheriff's Office. The child suffered multiple serious injuries. She had surgery for broken ribs, a hole in her lung and a severely fractured ankle.

The girl's grandmother, Sondra Cockman, said another relative chased after the car when it drove away, helping lead deputies to it.
Cockman says drivers have lost control while speeding around a nearby curve and that her house has been hit by a car before.
The accident is being investigated as a hit-and-run.
